What is a Green Flash?
Everyone loves a beautiful sunset, but if you are real lucky you may catch a light show like no other!
For as long as sailors have been at sea, there has been talk of an amazing event that sometimes occurs at sunrise or sunset. A flash of green light as the sun sinks over the horizon, or pops up from the ocean to say good morning. More often seen at sunset, because the exact location of the sun falling behind the horizon is predictable, the flash or sometimes ray always brings excitement to a viewer.
Jules Verne even wrote a book in 1882 that tells the story of a couple that tries to predict when and where the “Green Ray” will occur. Green flashes and green rays are rare optical phenomena, but they do happen! When the conditions are right – the light show begins! Albeit the flash only last for a second or two, and if you are real lucky you may even see it turn blue.
