Wednesday–The longest day

We awoke in the middle of the night from our oasis near the airport.  A brand new Marriot property, which was less than a mile from the American Airlines counter.  Confidently, and three hours before our departure time, we placed our passports in the little reader only to have both of them rejected.  The issue was quickly resolved at the desk and we headed to our gate.  I have never seen the TV series “The Walking Dead”, but as we cleared TSA inspections it was obvious we were in the show.   Hundreds of people who stayed up early into the morning hours were now at the airport in total disbelief in search of coffee.  No matter who one supported in the election, we got the feeling they were surprised.  Man-o-Man everyone of the walked and looked like a zombie.

The flight from DC to Phoenix was uneventful.  Rotating between reading and sleeping the trip seemed to fly by.  Well it did because we arrived in Phoenix a whole hour early!  However, we pulled into our gate right on time.  One hour sitting in plane waiting for spot.  It sucked, but allowed for another nap.   We did have a long layover, but we took a long walk, exchanged some currency, and had a wonderful lunch with some local brews. No big deal we are going to Mexico.

Once again we boarded on our final leg and the flight was a quick hour and half South.  Los Cabos has a brand new airport and the entry process went quickly.  Rum and Sugar pulled up not long after we exited the building and we were now officially on vacation.   Cabo San Lucas is about 30 miles from the airport, but once again a new toll road from our last visit in 2007 has been built and the trip went quickly.   We stopped at Walmart (yes Walmart – Tom went to Walmart) for some staples and sprits.   The place was HUGE.  My guess it was two to three times larger than any us superstore I have been in.

Mission accomplished, it was over the hill to the villa and our first glimpse of the ocean.   We missed sunset by minutes, but the glow was still visible.   The night ended early after an amazing dinner at one of the resort’s restaurants.   We laughed, told stories from past adventures, and yes politics even were part of the meal’s discussions.  Following the meal everyone was beginning to look like the zombies from the morning.   Our bed awaited was guarded by two white swans, but they could not stop us from climbing in and calling it a very very long day.

So it is now Thursday morning early and I am poolside watching the sun rise and  writing a blog Life is Good!
